In an instant, your life could change forever . . .
Every week, a home in our area is ravaged by fire. In the shock and confusion that follows, the Red Cross is there, helping to rebuild lives. The Red Cross provides disaster relief, training, and education to residents throughout Mower county on a daily basis.
In fiscal year 2008/2009 volunteers responded to 14 incidents and assisted 14 families in Mower County. These included single family disasters (mainly house fires) and other local events, such as flooding. Community disaster education was provided to 2,097 individuals to help them better prepare, prevent, and be Red Cross ready for a disaster.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on the generosity of local businesses and individuals, as well as support from the United Way, to provide vital assistance to local disaster victims. |
